Benchline theme documentation

Troubleshooting

Work down the page in order. Most Benchline problems are data shape problems, and the theme is built to show you which one you have.

The finder returns no results for a combination that should match

  1. Check the step options first. In the finder step block, option values must match the filter values in Search and Discovery exactly, including spelling and case. "Steel" in the step and "steel" in the filter are different values, and the step will faithfully return nothing.
  2. Confirm the field has a filter. A finder step submits a storefront filter; if Search and Discovery has no filter for that field, nothing can match. Add the filter in the app.
  3. Check the product values. A product matches a list filter when one of its list entries equals the chosen value. Values typed as free text in the wrong field, or packed several to a line in a single-line field, do not match.
  4. For the dimension step, confirm the products carry a Primary dimension value. The dimension-typed fields (length, width, height, diameter) are never filtered on.
  5. Confirm the Results collection setting. Results open in that collection; if it is a narrow collection, products outside it correctly never appear.

A product shows Check specification when it should match

The product has no value in at least one field the shopper constrained. The fit panel names the missing specification. Fill that field on the product (in the list style the rest of your catalog uses), and the verdict becomes a match or an honest conflict. See Fit check.

A product shows Does not match and the values look right

Compare the exact strings. The fit check is case-insensitive, but it is not spelling-insensitive: "A2 stainless steel" and "Stainless A2" are different values. Standardize on one form per value across the catalog. For numbers, check the value is in the numeric field and not written into the unit or text field.

The specification table is missing on a product page

The product has no specification values, or the Specification table block was removed from the product template. An empty record hides the table by design; add values and it returns. A group missing from an otherwise fine table means every field in that group is empty for this product.

The cart is not grouping

The machine field does not appear in the finder

Turn on Show machine field in the project finder, under Theme settings, then Project finder. The Driveline style turns it on; the other styles leave it off. Also check the finder section itself: the machine field renders ahead of the steps, and a heavily customized finder template may have been built on a copy without it.

The dimension step shows a dropdown instead of discs

Discs are a theme setting: Show the dimension step as visual size discs, under Theme settings, then Project finder. The Flowline style turns it on. The setting applies to steps whose input type is the dimension step; a step built as a plain select stays a select.

Complementary products are assigned but nothing renders

Empty your cart and reload. Shopify never recommends a product that is in the visitor's cart, is out of stock, is priced at zero, or is a gift card, and Benchline hides the block when a completed recommendation load returns nothing. Verify assignments in Search and Discovery with an empty cart. Full explanation in the FAQ.

Pickup shows nothing for a stocked product

Pickup availability follows the standard Shopify behavior: the block renders per variant for locations that stock the variant and have pickup enabled. Check the location, the variant stock, and that the Pickup availability block is present in the product template. A variant with no pickup location renders no block, by design.

Swatches show as plain text labels

Swatch discs render when the variant option is linked to color metafield values in the admin (the standard Shopify color option setup). An option with typed-in values and no linked color data renders as labeled choices instead.

A theme style is missing from the style picker

All four styles ship in the theme package. If the Theme style entry is absent in the editor, you are likely editing a different theme copy (an older upload) or a duplicate made before the styles were added. Check the theme library and open the current Benchline package.

Still stuck

Write to support through the form linked from the theme listing, or at lawmint2018@gmail.com. Include your store address, the theme version (shown in the editor), the page address where the problem shows, and what you expected to see. Screenshots of the product's metafield panel settle most specification questions in one round.
